Unique integration of access control, video, and HR management systems at Novolipetsk Steel
ARMO Line has completed a pilot project at Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) to implement integrated access control and video surveillance system and interface it with the company’s HR management system.
Novolipetsk Steel is the leading company in the NLMK Group and is one of the world largest producers of rolled sheet and section steel. Over 30 thousand people work at the facility with the total area of over 74 acres.
The objective of the pilot project was to create a flexible scalable access control and management system at the main entrance to the Novolipetsk steel management building. The capacity of the access control system is 5 thousand people, with data basr expandable to 50 thousand users.
To implement such a large-scale system, we have selected a hardware-software solution based on Lenel OnGuard Enterprise platform. This unique multiserver unlimited scalability solution is ideal for large geographically distributed corporate systems. In the future the system can be expanded to include, for example, other entrances to the facility, as well as NLMK Group remote sites.
The challenge of the project was to integrate Lenel OnGuard access control system with the existing HR management system, namely, standard ‘Personnel and Labor’time and attendance management system, which is used not only at NLMK but also at other facilities of the Group. For this purpose, ARMO Line specialists in cooperation with NLMK IT administrators have developed a special integration module based on Oracle 9i database management system. The module provides information exchange between access control system and ‘Personnel and Labor’ system.
In addition to traditional access control features, i.e. asignment of access rights, time and attendance, and employee traffic control, the solution also offers integration with video management system to provide instant verification of all employees and visitors. Now there is no need to wait and queue to get a pass issued, since operation of the admission desk is fully automated and it takes only 2 to 5 minutes to issue an electronic access card.
Under the project, ARMO Line has provided design, purchase of equipment, system integration, installation and commissioning. State-of-the-art, high-technology products from Lenel, HID, Gunnebo, and AXIS have been used as main and periferal equipment of the system. According to NLMK IT Director Sergey Slauta, the integrated access control and management system had successfully passed operational testing, and in December 2011 was put into commercial operation.
NLMK is one of the world largest producers of rolled sheet and section steel. NLMK Group includes three divisions: NLMK Russia (including the main asset of the Group –Novolipetsk Steel, as well as a number of raw material suppliers, such as Stoilensky (iron ore), Altai-Koks (coke), Dolomit (dolomite), Stagdok (limestone), etc.), NLMK Europe, and NLMK USA that combine the company’s European and US assets, correspondently.
